Outdoor Education

Years 7 to 10

In Year 7 to 10 there are 4-5 day EOTC activity programmes or camps for each of these year levels.

  • Year 7 is based at our Watersport Centre on the shores of Lake Dunstan
  • Year 8 utilises the outdoor education facility at Tautuku Beach in the Catlins
  • Year 9 is a water based activities from our Watersport Centre
  • Year 10 head to Glendhu Bay in Wānaka.

Year 11 students can select Physical Education and enter the ski and snowboard programme for Term.

Year 12 and 13 Outdoor Leadership

Students will experience a wide range of outdoor activities and leadership opportunities with a focus on developing their personal and social skills. The Outdoor Education courses are designed as a progression from foundation skills at Level One, to more advanced physical demands at Level Three.

The Year 12 course covers:

  • Working effectively as part of a team (adventure based learning, overnight camp, navigation, rogaining).
  • Managing risks (abseil, rock climbing, mountain biking and tramping).
  • Planning an expedition (tramping expedition).
  • Practical performance in the outdoors (ski/snowboarding)
  • Leadership (leading junior students)

The Year 13 course covers:

  • Leadership – adventure based learning, three day tramp, rock climbing / abseiling, leading juniors in the outdoor environment).
  • Managing risk (kayaking in the pool, flat water and up to grade 2 moving water, and an overnight journey).
  • Lifelong involvement in physical activity – outdoor skills (navigation, weather, survival, mountain biking).
  • Practical performance in the outdoors (ski / snowboard).
  • Environmental sustainability.
