All students at Cromwell College study a full academic programme

General Curriculum

All students at Cromwell College study a full academic programme designed in accordance with the New Zealand Curriculum Framework. Students in Years 7 – 9 follow a course of study that includes English, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, health, performing arts/music, technology, art, world languages and Māori. In Year 10 students must study English, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education and health. In addition to these compulsory subjects, students choose four optional subjects from the following selection – art, digital technologies, graphics, food technology, workshop technology, financial literacy, language drama, film making or music.

Year 11 and 12 students select 6 subjects in our 25 hour per week timetable. Senior school courses at Cromwell College follow nationally prescribed curriculum and assessment guidelines. Cromwell College is fully accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQA) to offer courses leading towards the National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) at Levels 1, 2 and 3. As well as the full range of courses offered at the College, students may elect to study other distance courses through the New Zealand Correspondence School – Te Kura, The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand (TOPNZ), or the on-line courses delivered through the NZNet Video Conference cluster.

Senior students may also enroll in carpentry, beauty therapy, hospitality and catering, automotive and primary industries Otago Secondary Tertiary College based at the Otago Polytechnic Central Campus in Cromwell.

Multi-level study is common, with many students electing to study a selection of courses across two or even three different levels. Courses taught at the College may change from year to year depending on student demand. Please contact us for further details.
