On Saturday 16th March a group of 15 rowers and coxswains headed off to Twizel to row for Cromwell College in the Aon Maadi Regatta.
This is the final regatta for the season and the culmination of lots of early morning training sessions, both on and off the water. After a season of wind delays and shortened regattas, we were all hoping for nice weather. We were in luck!
The weekend was spent doing some training rows and participating in the parade through Twizel on Sunday. Monday was the start of the heats. We had several crews make it through to repechages. We also had our U16 girls double of Alyssa and Ayala put in a great row on Thursday to get 3rd in the C-Final. During our downtime, we did some schoolwork, had a road trip to Tekapo for the hot pools and minigolf, and played the Twizel disc golf course.
On finals day, our Cromwell Crab Catcher mascot pulled out some amazing dance moves in the mascot dance-off competition. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere of finals racing and supporting some of our other local schools.
