PROGRAMME

This exciting programme gives you the opportunity to improve your golf while continuing your secondary education at one of New Zealand's best-equipped rural secondary schools. Cromwell College has an active and successful record of golfing achievement. Our teams have won Otago-Southland championships and competed at provincial and national levels. Many individual students have been selected for school and adult provincial representation. COURSES The Cromwell Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the best 18-hole layouts in the South Island and has played host to many top amateur competitions. This 6300-metre tree-lined course meanders through rolling countryside and is located about one kilometre from the College. Central Otago's climate virtually guarantees year-round golf from the dry heat of summer to the crisp, clear days of winter. Students will also play at Millbrook Resort, Jack’s Point, The Hills, and five other Club Courses within 60 kms of Cromwell.

COACHING

A year in the Cromwell College Golf Academy includes twice weekly coaching sessions with Colin Cowie. Colin has extensive experience with golf throughout New Zealand and especially in Otago. A former Otago senior representative player, he has competed throughout the country and has an exceptional knowledge of the game coupled with a passion for junior golf.

THE HILLS

At regular times the team visits The Hills Golf Course owned by entrepreneur Michael Hill and the home of the New Zealand Open. The association with The Hills provides young golfers attending the Academy with exclusive access to one of New Zealand’s high profile, privately owned courses. Coaching sessions with The Hills professional team are offered in a bid to help foster the growth and development of junior players embarking on a golfing career. Weekends are devoted to club and tournament play. Academy golfers take part in a wide variety of tournaments and competitions throughout Otago, Southland and South Canterbury. Students also take part in regular sessions concerning personal fitness, course management, and playing strategy. All students may complete a comprehensive course on the Rules of Golf and have an opportunity to become NZGA certified referees.
Academy Golfers will benefit from:

  • Over 70 practice sessions supervised by our resident coach, including video analysis.
  • Professional coaching at The Hills on a regular basis.
  • Regular competitions in local tournaments and age group championships
