International
Cromwell is a small town of 4000 people on the shores of Lake Dunstan in picturesque Central Otago, close to the popular tourist resorts of Wanaka and Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand. It is an important centre for horticulture and viticulture. Most of the six Southern Lakes ski fields are located less than an hour away and the residents of Cromwell are relaxed and friendly.
Cromwell College is a co-educational state school of approximately 400 students. It is set in attractive grounds including extensive sports fields. An aquatic centre on the lakeshore is maintained by the school and is home to a fleet of yachts, kayaks and windsurfers.
Cromwell College offers a good range of subjects at all three levels of the NCEA and a private tutor is available in French. International students have the opportunity to study for IELTS English language examinations.
International students at Cromwell College have the option of living in our specialist student hostel, the Cromwell College Apartments, or in a homestay arrangement with a local family.

The Apartments is a school hostel with a difference. International students and Kiwi students live in flats together, learn how to shop for groceries, cook, clean and wash their own laundry. They also take part in a comprehensive Outdoor Pursuits programme with qualified instructors on Sundays and long weekends. The Cromwell College Apartments is a wonderful opportunity to learn life skills under the supervision of experienced hostel managers’, develop confidence and have a lot of fun at the same time. It is no wonder that international students are sad to leave when their time is up. Central Otago is a spectacular setting for Cromwell College’s Outdoor Education programme and which includes flat and white water kayaking, windsurfing, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding and tramping. International students at Cromwell College become fully integrated into school life and enjoy an authentic experience. You certainly don’t see them hanging around together in a group with other international students! They make friends for life with Kiwi students, spend time in their homes and really get to know another culture. Cromwell College is a small school with a lot happening!
